First Class attendance at ChemSec Substitution Conference
Brussels, 17 September 2007: A constructive atmoshpere dominated the conference room as ChemSec hosted a one-day Substitution Conference in Brussels on Wednesday. It was a day filled with discussions on the different aspects of Substitution of hazardous chemicals, through concrete examples by succesful companies as well as information on regulatory pressures such as REACH and presentations of drivers and solutions within the field of chemical safety.
At the conference the nearly 170 participants listened to presentations by representatives from a number of suceesful multinational companies, such as H&M, Skanska, Dell, Sara Lee, Sony Ericsson and Fred Butler as well as contributions from international NGOs active in toxic use reduction projects, like Greenpeace and WWF.
The REACH SIN List was officially released at the conference. ChemSec director Per Rosander described how the unique common effort of the NGOs in the Advisory Committee as well as the companies involved in the project was a timely contribution in order to push the REACH-agenda to live up to its original aspirations. Among the 267 substances on the SIN List heavily publicised substances such as bisphenol A, formaldehyde, PFOA, and, triclosan are found.
