NGOs urge the Commission to strengthen RoHS
10 November 2008

We call upon the European Commission to strengthen RoHS during the ongoing review process, to level the playing field in the European Union for electronic manufacturers and to improve the protection of human health and the environment. A strengthened RoHS, with additional chemical restrictions, will help drive innovation throughout the sector. It is technically and financially feasible to eliminate PVC, brominated flame retardants and other stipulated hazardous chemicals from global supply chains.

Voluntary corporate commitments to remove these additional hazardous substances have already increased the availability of safer alternatives to many of these substances and we now urge the Commission to support the inclusion of these substances in a revised RoHS Directive.
