RoHS Conference in Brussels Wednesday

On Wednesday 18 November ChemSec will arrange a conference in the European Parliament on the revision of the RoHS and WEEE Directives. Leading electronic companies will at the conference present their work on phasing out hazardous substances in electronic products.

The Conference "Greening Consumer Electronics – from Hazardous Material to Sustainable Solutions" will be hosted by Member of the European Parliament Jill Evans, who is the European Parliament Rapporteur on the Revision of RoHS.

MEP Jill Evans will at the conference describe the "RoHS State of Play - Background & Current issues". Prof. Åke Bergman, Head of Department of Environmental Chemistry, Stockholm University, will give a presentation on "Bromine and Chlorine in Electronics – Human Health & Environmental Implications".

In practice examples of business policies and action to substitute halogens will be given by Andy Baynes, Head of Environmental Technologies, Apple Inc, Mats Pellbäck-Scharp, Head of Corporate Sustainability, Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications and Ariela Verboord, Product Launch Manager Arnitel, DSM Engineering plastics.

Alexandra McPherson, Project Director, Clean Production Action in the US will talk about "The transition to Greener Consumer Electronics: RoHS, industry initiatives and safer alternatives"
