The discussion on defining EU criteria for endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) is ongoing. Denmark has developed an EDC criteria proposal as part of these discussions and the Danish Environment Minister now wants this criteria proposal tested against the 22 endocrine disruptors listed on the SIN List 2.0.
– Denmark is a forerunner when it comes to fighting endocrine disruptors and the ‘cocktail effect' of chemicals. We will begin by examining the 22 substances suspected by environmental organisations of being endocrine disruptors. If they are right, Denmark will fight for these substances to be phased out in the EU. We need the EU in this fight, to make sure that 500 million citizens can consume safety", says the Danish Environment Minister Ida Auken.
Denmark also states that endocrine disrupting chemicals and cocktail effects will be key issues during the Danish presidency first half year of 2012.
